Information sources#

The pause presentation can show cast, related credits, and film stories when those are available. It combines title context with supplemental information; not every title has the same coverage.

Plex provides the library identity and metadata used to identify the media. Reel's enrichment service can supply additional material associated with public title identifiers such as IMDb, TMDB, TVDB, or Plex identities. A TV episode can require resolving the parent series identity first.

Show cast, related-credit navigation, and a film-story panel for a title with available enrichment.

Coverage is conditional. The presence of a panel on one title does not imply equivalent material exists for every title.

Request behavior#

Supplemental content is requested from Reel's enrichment service using the title identifiers. The service can return a package, report that no material is available, or indicate that work is pending. Pending and retry responses are not the same as an empty local cast list.

This path does not send the media file to the enrichment service. It is nevertheless an external content request: the identifiers associate the request with a title, and the service sees the requesting network address.

Owner preparation#

Accurate Plex matching and usable provider identifiers help Reel resolve the title. No additional REEL Photos library or configuration playlist content is required to create film stories. Those storage mechanisms serve different features.

For an unmatched home video or a title without recognized identifiers, do not expect the same enrichment as a correctly identified commercial movie. Correct the library metadata when it is wrong; do not assign a false match solely to obtain a panel.

Failure boundaries#

Missing enrichment, service delay, and PMS playback availability are separate conditions. Diagnose a missing story by checking title identification and service response; diagnose a video failure through the playback path.

Diagnostic and enrichment reports are also distinct from these content requests. Privacy & Help controls recording and sending of technical reports. Turning off those reports does not by itself turn off supplemental content retrieval.
