Collection data belongs to Plex#
Reel presents collections defined on your PMS, including their membership, artwork, and descriptive notes. Collection pages support Play All and Shuffle, making a curated grouping usable as a playback source as well as a browsing page.
Create and maintain membership and descriptive metadata in Plex. Reel does not require a second collection database or a duplicate set of media files.
Presentation and grouping#
Collection layout selects Grid or Season Wall. Grid uses the same general poster presentation as a movie library. Season Wall exposes more of the collection presentation and benefits from owner-curated artwork and descriptions.
Plex collections belong to individual libraries. Reel can group identically named collections across libraries for presentation, or list them separately. That grouping does not merge the source collection objects in PMS.
Show collection artwork, its description, member titles, and the Play All and Shuffle actions.
Preparing a collection#
- Check membership in Plex and remove accidental matches.
- Choose a poster and background appropriate to the grouping.
- Add a useful description of its scope or ordering.
- Review it in Reel using a profile with the intended library access.
If same-named collections are grouped, inspect all participating libraries. An unexpected member can originate in another collection with the same name rather than in the one currently open in Plex Web.
Playback and artwork#
Play All starts a queue from collection content; Shuffle changes its playback ordering. These actions do not rewrite collection membership. Playback still follows the active profile's access and the normal media-delivery decision.
A collection-specific background takes precedence over the general collection-detail page background. See Page backgrounds when a collection appears to ignore a general image choice.
